Rock, Tree, Bridge Relay

To play, get into teams of 3 and make a line. The first person in line is the rock. He ducks down on his knees with his head tucked in.
The second person in line jumps over the rock and stands up and becomes the tree.
The third person in line jumps over the rock, goes around the tree twice, and makes a tent with his body and becomes the bridge.
The person who was the rock then goes around the tree 2 times, goes under the bridge, and becomes a rock again. They keep repeating this pattern until their team reaches the finish line. The first team to finish wins.
GRAB BAG
What you'll need
  • two brown paper bags
  • slips of paper
  • pencil
How to play
Setup: You'll need a starting line, a designated turnaround point, and two teams (with at least two players per team). Also, two brown bags, slips of paper, and a pencil. On the slips, write instructions: "Hop to the tree and back," "Run to the slide, go down, and run back," "Do 25 jumping jacks." Make two of each instruction (so that the teams will have identical sets). Put one in each bag. Each bag should have one slip per player.
  1. To play: The first player on each team pulls a slip from the bag, performs the action, and tags the next player, who does the same. The first team to finish all the actions wins.

ROLL OUT THE MARBLE
What you'll need
  • Cardboard tubes, such as paper towel or wrapping paper tubes
  • Scissors
  • Marble
How to play
  1. To get started: Cut the cardboard tubes into equal-length troughs, one for each player (ours were approximately 1 foot long). Have players line up 2 to 3 feet apart.
  2. To play: The first person in line sets the marble on one end of his trough, then, without touching the marble, rolls it the length of his tube and into the next player's (it's okay if troughs touch). That player passes the marble to the next, and so on. As each player passes the marble, he moves to the end of the line, eventually catching the marble again and passing it on. If someone drops the marble, he's out and the marble goes back to the beginning of the line. Whoever's left is the winner.
  3. Our testers' twist: For larger groups, divide the players into 2 teams. Give each team a marble and have them race to pass it around the group 3 times. If a team drops their marble, they must start all over again.

Coin-Drop Race

What you'll need
  • Egg carton
  • About 20 pennies
  • 1 bowl for each team

How to play
  1. Setup: Mark start and turn-back lines a good distance apart. Cut the lids from the egg cartons and place one for each team on the ground midway between the start and turn-back lines. Place 20 pennies in each bowl and put a bowl for each team on the turn-back line.
  2. Playing the Game: The teams line up at the start line. At "Go," one player from each team races to the turn-back line, picks up one penny from her team's bowl, and runs to her team's egg carton. There, she gets one chance to drop the penny into one cup of the carton -- without lowering her arm below waist height. She then runs back to the start line and the next player goes. The game ends when a team has gotten at least one penny in each cup of its egg carton.

Balloon Sandwich

What you'll need
  • Balloons

How to play
  1. Begin by choosing partners and lining them up back to back at a starting line. Place a balloon (not a helium one) between their backs so that they must hold it there and not let it fall to the ground (emphasize no hands!).
  2. At the sound of a whistle, the pairs must take off in this position, shuffling their way toward a finish line. If the balloon pops or drops, they must return to the starting line for a replacement.
  3. The first sandwich to cross the line wins.
