Backpacking


Dates: September 24-26, 2010
Location: Black Mountain Range, beginning at Mt. Mitchell
Leave: Meet at LNBC Friday, September 24, at 7:45 a.m.
Return: LNBC Sunday, September 28, 3-6pm

Tentative Plan:

  • Start at Mount Mitchell.
  • Camp Friday Night: 5-6 miles out (mile 6 about 1 mile short of Celo Knob)
  • Camp Saturday Night: Back at Deep Gap (mile 3.5 above)
  • Hike to Mount Mitchell back on Sunday

Items to bring:

Sleeping:
Shared
  • Two or one man tent with rain fly
  • Ground cloth (tarp)
  • Extra strings and stakes (in case of strong winds)
Each Person
  • Sleeping bag (in stuff sack--rated to at least 30 degrees)
  • Pad

Clothing (Each Person):
  • Hiking boots
  • Boot socks--breathable
  • Shorts (zip off hiking pants)
  • T-Shirts
  • Long Pants
  • Long sleeve shirts
  • Rain Jacket/Rain suit/Poncho
  • Poncho for pack
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Underclothes

Toiletries (Each Person):
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect Repellant
  • Soap
  • Chapstick
  • Toilet Paper
  • Deodorant

Cooking (Share...will figure out at meeting):
  • Single burner stove

  • Instant oatmeal
  • Ramen Noodles
  • Cooking spray or squeeze margarine
